My Story

With a diverse background as a non-profit fundraiser, sales account executive, self-taught pastry chef, and former owner of a high-end wedding cake design company, my 20-year career has been a vibrant tapestry of experiences. Throughout this journey, I faced numerous successes and challenges, often feeling overwhelmed by the need to prove myself to others.

Yet, deep within, I sensed there was a different path waiting for me—one rooted in compassion, holistic care, and service to others. That inner voice grew louder last spring when my beloved sister-in-law received a devastating diagnosis of Stage 4 Large B-Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Though the news was heartbreaking, we clung to hope during her treatment. While massaging her legs during chemotherapy, she remarked, “Wow, Meg, you’re really good at this. 10 out of 10! Maybe you should become a massage therapist.” In that moment, a spark ignited within me. I knew this was the calling I had been waiting for. Thankfully, my sister is now in remission.

The very next day, I enrolled in massage therapy school—one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I also reached out to my Reiki Master, eager to learn the art of reiki healing. Reiki has been the catalyst for so much transformation mentally and spiritually in my own life, and I feel it is my true life’s calling to share the healing and loving light of Reiki to help others remember their innate power, connect with their inner peace, and embrace their journey of self-healing.

Now, as a Level 2 Reiki practitioner with aspirations of becoming a Master, I blend massage therapy with reiki and sound therapy to nurture my clients’ minds, bodies, and souls. It’s a joy to support others on their healing journeys and create a compassionate space for transformation.

What’s in a name?

Valo means “light” in Finnish.

At 16, I was an exchange student in Finland, an experience that profoundly shaped my understanding of humanity. During the summer months, the sun never fully sets in this Nordic landscape. The midnight hours are filled with a dim glow as the sun kisses the horizon and then begins its ascent, welcoming a new day.

It’s a metaphor for our experience on earth. While we may at times experience a dimming of our vibrations and wellness, massage and reiki help to rebalance, renew, and reawaken.

The secondary logo below is a soaring hawk, which happens to come to me in visions during meditation. A spirit guide. The hawk, a symbol of spiritual insight, acts as a beacon in our journey toward enlightenment and self-exploration. Its presence inspires us to cultivate mindfulness and attunement to our environment, allowing us to forge deeper connections with both our inner being and the world at large. The 7 symbols down the body of the bird are symbolic of the chakras.
